My older brother often say to me: “The problems are the crazy people” and sometimes I think that is right. Unfortunately in our modern society of the XXI century the common denominator of the human beings tend to associate psychotherapy with madness, but the reality is that this is a conception archaic NINETEENTH century.
Today, the modern science has made great discoveries as, for example, if I go to the gym and I eat healthily, my body will remain healthy and strong. In parallel mode has also been confirmed the importance of healthy people to receive, eventually, support of the therapy to stay mentally healthy.
Today, there are many trends of psychotherapy, such as freudian psychoanalysis, Jung’s archetypes, or more recently, fashion the neuro linguistic Programming (NLP). However, there is another therapy psychological of great impact that can help you when you have a conflict, this is the #Psychodrama.
What is Psychodrama?
The word «psycho» comes from the Greek that is translated «mind» and the word «drama» is a term borrowed from the «theater» in Greek. My opinion and personal experience allows me to attempt to define the psychodrama, as: «A group psychotherapy spontaneously practiced in a controlled scenario (classroom) and directed by a Director/Therapist focusing on feelings, thoughts, motivations, relationships, and behaviors of the protagonist, which leads the protagonist interacts actively with characters represented that generate their conflicts, helping you to become more aware of your reality and allowing us to get to solve the(I) the conflict(s)».
Is attributed the creation of this therapy at Dr.
Jacob Levy Moreno, who rejected the theories of Dr. Freud as overly passive and integrating the component group in the psychotherapy.
How to practice Psychodrama?
First of all it is prudent to recommend that this therapy is practiced under the direction of a practitioner in psychodrama. In the case of Mexico there is the Mexican School of Psychodrama and Sociometría, also Mexican Society of Psychodrama, among others, in the case of Chile, this Center of Studies of Psychodrama, Chile and Ecuador Association of Psychodrama and Sociometría of Ecuador (APSE), among others.
That said I will give a small description of my personal experience, when I participated in the workshop therapeutic is presented in 3 stages:
- Warming or warming: in this stage, the Director Psicodramático explains to the group what is the nature of the work, the rules of the psychotherapy and the end of the same.
- Skit: the director chooses a protagonist, you make a small exchange between the director and the protagonist, to determine the conflict to resolve, the protagonist chooses the characters, their conflict represented by the participants of the group. Depending on the conflict can make a scene spontaneously, with more or less emotional charge. Eventually, you can review past episodes of the life of the protagonist that led to this conflict there is currently allowing the psychodrama intervene in the past and the present of the protagonist and allowing the protagonist to resolve his conflict.
- Eco group: in this last stage, after the conflict is resolved, the participants in the group perform a feedback about your own experience, memories, feelings and experiences perceived during the practice of psychotherapy and helping them to themselves.
This therapy can be practice with children, adolescents, and adults, can help in conflicts such as: «What career should I choose?».
In the case of a young person who is out of high school, to help a person to overcome the grief for the death of a loved one.
In my personal experience, the only comparison that comes to mind for me after having experienced the psychodrama is to compare it with going to the gym. If you don’t have practice sales exhausted and you might feel muscles that you do not acordabas that you had, but when it happens the fatigue initial you feel stronger, more agile, and better yourself. #Psychology #Education
