The luminescent city project (which also includes the luminescent tree project) is a methodology or procedure through which a town or city can appear luminescent at night, both internally and externally, including buildings, all types of infrastructures, urban furniture , trees and cars.

This procedure is also applicable at a particular level.

The novelty of the luminescent city project lies in the fact that there is currently no luminescent town or city in the world. There is no town or city that is illuminated in darkness by alternative means to conventional and commonly established, where electric power is used as an essential model for the emission of light. And there is not, in the same way, a tree in the World that is luminescent.

This project, in its application, aims to promote a substantial change in the way of life of people, towns and cities, allowing economic and energy savings, in addition to promoting the development of sustainable tourism and the economy, using these methods that provide sustainable energy.

Essentially, it is the application of liquids, varnishes, resins, enamels, or similar, transparent or semitransparent, in conjunction with light, luminescent or photoluminescent, non-toxic or radioactive particles, such as, for example, those from rare earths like the strontium aluminate.

The Aluminato de Estroncio only needs an exposure in the light of a few minutes to emit light for 12 hours.

Applying it in a town or city, this can mean a tourist, economic and energy revolution.

Taking into account the cost of electric power that people and public entities support, the savings that would result from the fact that both facades, furniture, cars, interior walls, furniture and any material object were luminescent, would be considerable, without talking about the benefits related to the conservation of the environment.

In terms of security, the luminescence of these objects could positively affect a decrease in criminal acts that occur at night, since criminals always seek the shelter of darkness to undertake their criminal acts. The external light bulbs or the pubic lighting, affect certain areas according to their light output. In the case of making the facades of homes show luminescent, depending on the amounts of luminescent particles that are used in the mixture, the entire object is illuminated with greater or lesser intensity, so that there are no dark areas.

The luminescence allows to carry out its mission in society, with the right power to avoid causing discomfort derived from light pollution.

In the case of urban furniture and cars, vandalism and subtraction in them would be more complicated to do if they appeared luminescent.

Even with respect to road safety, the luminescent cars would make it possible to counteract the great light deficit that occurs in many of the roads through which we circulate at night.

The advertising posters, the monuments and works of art, the trees … All this could appear luminescent in the dark with this methodology, while remaining protected from environmental factors.

The savings would also be derived in relation to the maintenance of what the product is applied to. The resins, enamels, varnishes and protective liquids for exteriors, would provide a protective layer, allowing a considerable saving in the cost of replacement and in the expense of painting.

In the facades, applying the luminescent pigments mixed in varnishes, fixative liquid – water sealant, enamels or similar, would allow the maintenance and replacement of the paint could be extended over time, which can quantify a considerable saving for the families Using the proper bases in their transparent form, there would be practically no change in the appearance of the colors that line the city during the day. Also, if the fixative-sealant liquid is used, it would allow it to be painted over in the unlikely event that it would be desirable to apply a normal paint to restore the facades to their original condition.

Any City Council or supramunicipal organism that carries out this project, assuming that it took charge of its application for the benefit of the citizens, would allow the families to free themselves of the economic burden derived from the maintenance of their facades, which and as a collateral effect would suppose a greater economic disposition for these, money that surely would redound to the benefit of the shops and services of the city.

At the tourist level, and given the global novelty represented by the fact that a town or city is luminescent, its impact would be enormous, becoming a major tourist attraction and promoting a multitude of investments. In addition, the income of companies and existing businesses would be multiplied in the first instance, allowing a significant increase in employment, favoring the creation of new businesses and therefore, enabling the reduction of work stoppage.

The free publicity generated would also be of enormous consideration. And it would not only affect the first city in the world to be luminescent, but its province, community and country, in which the first luminescent cities of the world and the first luminescent trees would appear.

The possibility of becoming the first town or luminescent city in the world, would imply that media from all over the world would make known this relevant fact, which, apart from the intrinsic publicity for the city, would attract a multitude of people from all over the world. places and there would be a concatenation of benefits resulting from this great tourist influx, because in addition to the obvious income that these tourists will provide to the city, these same tourists will make known in their countries the novelty they have witnessed.

As an example, I will mention the town of Júzcar, which in 2011 and after the producer of the Smurfs film chose it as the first Smurf town in the World, making all homes and buildings painted blue, changed the life of its inhabitants. This meant a before and an after in the future of those people. The tourist influx multiplied exponentially, revolutionizing the economy of the place. Tourists continue to arrive in large numbers six years later and now, with the release of the second part of the film, visits are again increasing.

In this case, the appeal is even greater, since it is not simply a question of giving color to real estate. It’s about making them light up in the dark. And the vast majority of people are attracted to everything that emits light and a clear example is found in large cities such as Las Vegas.

In addition, we must bear in mind that this luminescent phenomenon appeared as a clear reference in the forests and in the city of Pandora, the highest grossing film of all time, Avatar. Film that will be shot three or four sequels more. The first one will be released in 2018, probably at Christmas that year.

The possibility of being able to connect the movie Avatar and its aftermath, with a city that is luminescent, including its trees, is not that it seems possible, but very likely, since a luminescent city becomes itself the scene of any film , both for its novelty and its future appearance. And taking into account that the luminescence that appears in the film becomes a reality, it would not be surprising that the producers of it decided to shoot some scenes and even consider the possibility of releasing some of its parts wherever they make it happen.

Already in itself, becoming something unique implies a tourist revolution and a great publicity. But if we add the ingredient of the movie Avatar, the benefits could be incalculable.

As the first town or luminescent city in the world, there would be the largest cluster of luminescent buildings in the world, and therefore, it could be inscribed in the Guinness Book of Records. This would make the city appear in this famous publication, with all its direct and indirect benefits.

In addition and taking into account the great importance that are taking all measures that are carried out in favor of respect for the environment, could become an international example of sustainable energy saving. And if as luminescent particle is used the strontium aluminate, non-toxic, non-radioactive, coming from rare earths, which is ten times more powerful luminically than other luminescent materials such as phosphorus and whose light duration is greater than 20 years, we would still be more involved with respect to the environmental cause.

Think of the vision from the sky of a luminescent city. It would be a unique image. And together with all the benefits and incentives described, carrying out this project implies doing something that would go down in History.

The luminescent particles can emit light of different shades. I recommend the blue tonalities. Blue is a color that is linked to Life, promoting harmony and joy. In Japan they use blue LED lamps as a measure to reduce suicides on train tracks, as they have been shown to infuse serenity. And they are giving results, suicides are decreasing in the roads where they have been installed.

A study carried out at Harvard University verified that blue tones of light make people appear more calm, exerting a sedative effect on their emotions. They also discovered that the ability to concentrate increases.

High intensity lights, coming from conventional lighting technologies, make us more instinctive and irrational. The light tones emitted by these luminescent materials, on the other hand, emit a light of moderate intensity.

The Nobel Prize winner Susumu Tonegawa, in his scientific experiments with blue light, indicates that this light stimulates certain areas of the brain, especially affecting the cells responsible for memory and in charge of synaptic connections.

Focusing again on the possibilities that a luminescent City would offer, we must insist that anything can be illuminated in this way. It is not the same to put a spotlight on a statue in the night, than to make that statue, in its entirety, emit light. The vision and appreciation is much greater using luminescence. And any decorative object that you want to use to beautify a town or city may shine in the dark. Artificial plants, monuments and objects of all kinds. And we must take into account the large expenses that occur in times such as Christmas, having to hire companies that place lighting in all places and the large bill that is generated in favor of companies that supply electricity.

Currently there are investigations in bioluminescence to make plants emit light from biological variations. Companies like Biglow, which has created the first luminescent plant, which they have called Starlight Avatar, researchers from Academia Sinica in Taiwan and Navinal Cheng Kung University in Taipei and Tainan, as well as researchers Daan Roosegarde and Alexander Krichevsy, try make plants and trees luminescent. And plants like the Starlight Avatar can be a complement to what I expose here. Including the possibility that in years to come they can make trees emit light through their leaves. But surely they will not make the trunks and branches of the trees emit light.

Annually, supramunicipal, state and European Union organisms dedicate an enormous amount of millions of euros in funds and grants, dedicated to finance projects and measures that are carried out in favor of research and development in areas such as sustainable tourism development , the local economy or sustainable energy saving and environmental policies. Matters all of them applicable by the nature of this project.

Bear in mind that there are currently state departments of Research, Development and Innovation (R + D + I) that reward all the activities developed by the municipalities in these disciplines.

Make an estimate of the benefits that could be obtained through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), in energy savings, savings in maintenance, increased safety, economic benefits of businesses and businesses, benchmark in R & D & I, revaluation of real estate, benefits in advertising, the benefit of becoming something unique worldwide, the benefit in question of employment, the benefits in investments, the benefits in other subsidies, benefits in popularity for politicians and governments, the example in the Ecological-environmental world and the benefits of the emotional state of people.

Taking into account the properties of the luminescent particles, if one wants to maintain a high luminescence, it would be enough to program the street lighting to turn on 10 minutes every hour. This would provide the necessary charge so that these particles do not decay in their emission of light after the passage of night.

Application on facades of buildings and all kinds of material objects:

As a base, any type of varnish, enamel, resin or similar can be used, provided it is transparent and for external use. Preferably without UV filter. There are for all types of materials, so we will use the default for facades, for metals, for wood …

Any non-toxic can be used as luminescent particles. But it is advisable to use strontium aluminate, since by its nature and qualities it will offer us the best result, including its application in trees.

The mixture of luminescent particles to be diluted in a kilo of the base product can be variable, depending on the luminescence that is to be achieved. I recommend a mixture of approximately 33% of luminescent particles per kilo of base product. You have to stir the mixture well so that the particles are evenly distributed throughout the product.

The control of the product and especially of the luminescent particles must be precise, since it is what most expensive the application process.

On the facades, the cheapest base product is the water-sealant-fixative liquid. This product also offers the possibility of painting on top with conventional paints.

For metals, any transparent product special for metals would be used. And for wood, the ones applicable to this material, and it is even possible to apply some varnish or fire-retardant enamel.

In the case of wanting to make a car appear luminescent, it would be necessary to apply to a liquid base transparent and special for metals or applied to the existing paint, the same proportion of luminescent particles described above.

Making cars appear luminescent, not only would provide more safety in night driving, but would become an ingredient of luminosity for towns and cities, collaborating both in energy saving and in the reduction of crime and especially in the Thefts, both in vehicles and in buildings and street furniture.

You could also apply already existing luminescent paint products to carry out this project, but the costs would be greater than doing it as I indicated.

The luminescent tree project aims to provide luminescence to trees in a natural, ecological and environmentally friendly manner. It would only apply to the trunk and the branches of the trees.

Nature offers towns and cities the possibility to decorate and beautify themselves in a natural way, offering in a correct proportion, a balanced and sustainable urban growth.

The luminescent tree project offers the possibility that this beauty is also appreciable at night, in a way that respects the environment

Traditions such as putting a Christmas tree and filling it with lights, is something that is done by tradition and looking for a reason for illusion in special times. And I think that we should not wait for special moments to be excited, because every moment is special if we know how to appreciate it.

In this case, the bases to be used must be entirely of natural origin: natural resins, natural varnishes with the possibility of being flame retardant, natural lime, natural liquid latex … And non-toxic luminescent particles, non-radioactive and respectful with the environment.

The base of the luminescent mixture would be natural resins, natural varnishes or other products that offer adherence and resistance to water of natural origin, transparent and that would allow perspiration.

If you want to use a natural bleach that allows you to increase the light output, we would use natural lime to paint the trunk and branches of the trees, just as they did in the past and even in our times, to protect trees from different pests. Another option to whiten the trunk and branches of trees is to apply non-toxic liquid natural latex. Another way of doing this, which does not change the daytime appearance of the trees, is to apply the mixture of resin and luminescent particles directly on the trunk and branches.

Both natural resins, such as lime and natural latex, offer added natural protection to our trees. In fact, they themselves are segregated in the natural world to perform those functions. So we find that the application of these products to give them luminescence, not only does not harm them, but offers them added protection.

The luminescent mixture, which would be applied in the second instance, assuming that it was decided to apply a bleach like natural lime, can also be variable depending on the luminosity that we want to obtain. But it would be advisable to mix around 33% of strontium aluminate for each liter of transparent base. Remove so that the particles are spread evenly throughout the product.

This is how the first luminescent trees in the world will appear.
