Pope Francis urged this Sunday the catholic faithful to carry with them always the Bible, as it is the mobile phone, to be able to read it more often and meditate on its content.
“Please, do not forget, not forget, what would happen if we tried to go through the Bible like we treat our mobile phone, think of this: the Bible is always with us,” said the pope at the end of the traditional recitation of the Angelus with the numerous faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
The pontiff raised the comparison already, before the prayer to recall that during the forty days of the period of lent, which began last march 1 and will end on April 13, christians “have to face spiritual combat against the devil with the power of the Word of God.”
“That is why it is necessary to acquire confidence with the Bible: read it often, meditate on it, assimilate it,” he added.
And he recalled that it has been compared to the use that should be given to the Bible with the use of mobile phones: “One has said, what would happen if you try the Bible like we treat our cell phone?”.
“If we were to bring always with us, if you come back when the olvidásemos, if we were to open several times a day (…) Clearly the comparison is paradoxical, but invites us to reflect”, he added.
Jorge Bergoglio is expected from today’s bus ride from the Vatican to the 16.00 local time (15.00 GMT) with destination to Ariccia, about 30 kilometers southeast of Rome, to follow a few spiritual exercises on the theme of “Passion, death and resurrection of Jesus according to st. Matthew”.
Ariccia is a small town situated between the lakes of Albano and Nemi, a little more than 18,000 inhabitants, and that, seated between the hills and far away from the bustling Italian capital and the centre of the Holy see, is a place conducive to meditation.
The spiritual exercises, in which the pope will be accompanied by members of the Curia will consist of daily meditations guided by the franciscan, Giulio Michelini, reported Vatican Radio.
From tomorrow, Monday the days of the spiritual exercises to the pontiff will start at 07.30 hours with the concelebration of the mass, followed by the first meditation; the second meditation of the day will be held in the afternoon, before the eucharistic adoration and vespers.
The next Friday, march 10, pope Francis will return to the Vatican City.MÚSICA MEDITACIÓN MEDITATION MUSIC
