PROVING there is far more to Boomtown Festival than the music organisers have announced over a hundred workshops to entertain all.

This comes as they reveal the full music lineup and activities for the Whistlers Green area of the festival.

In addition to the workshops, skills and crafts on offer, it has been announced that the new Windmill stage will host some of the finest jazz, world fusion and roots reggae acts on the circuit right now, including: Gilles Peterson, Benjamin Zephainia, Portico Quartet and GoGo Penguin.

Kidztown will be showcasing acts from across the festival with it’s own main stage, Sandcastle Stage, with the likes of Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer, Beans on Toast, and Sam & the Womp performing tailor-made family friendly sets for all.

Whistlers Green, perched atop Matterley Estate on the very westerly tip of the South Downs National Park, requires very little adjustment to create the perfect space for tranquility of mind, body and soul. Immersed in the surroundings’ natural beauty, it is the ideal space to learn about nature and traditional skills. The workshops and activities on offer range from master classes in; blacksmithing, jewellery making, rocket stove building, chainsaw carving, willow weaving, geodomes, glass blowing, pottery, to upcycling and delicious chocolate making.

Also on offer is a vast array of circus, music, play and dance workshops plus a healing area for recuperation for the mind, body and soul.

The Kidztown area will host an array of spaces to learn, play and relax. Kidztown’s Sandcastle Stage will feature high quality fun-filled music, from Sam & The Womp’s high energy, electro swing inspired gypsy funk to Kid Carpet’s hip hop esque disco punk, Beans on Toast’s fantastically ranting folk to parodic chap hop from Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer. This stage is specifically catered for kids as well as their adults and will host comedy, theatre, puppet shows and more throughout the day.

Right next door to Kidztown, the Windmill stage will be continuing family friendly listening with a cream of young UK talents pushing the boundaries of traditional jazz. With acts including; BBC6 Music’s Gilles Peterson, loop pedal extraordinaire Dub FX, pioneering dub poet, writer, social commentator and music maker Benjamin Zephaniah & Revolutionary Minds, atmospheric music, experimental four string ensemble Portico Quartet, minimalist jazz and breakbeat basslines sounds of GoGo Penguin intersect, Soweto Kinch’s carefully arranged horns bridge the gap between jazz and hip hop as well as infectious sounds of The Comet Is Coming, all female septet Nérija, Brazilian Nomad Orchestra, Cuban/Iranian quartet Ariwo and Jesse Royal’s authentic sounds of Jamaican folk represent the many strands of reggae revival artists through the festival.

The mighty Lion’s Den reggae stage is a short 5 mins walk away where living legends such as The Specials, Toots and the Maytals, Ziggy Marley and M.I.A. will be headlining throughout the festival.

Lak Mitchell – Boomtown co-founder said: “We’re so proud of this area of the festival, so many put such love and dedication into creating this incredible space every year and it’s amazing to see what it’s now become; A beautiful festival within a festival, filled with family and fun whilst retaining all the core festival traditions many of us have grown up with. We’re excited to see where it will go next!
