Veterans and their families now have an outdoor space to enjoy at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday morning for a pavilion that was made possible by the Armed Forces Family Foundation (AFFF). AFFF donated a total of $31,978 for the supplies and construction of the 680 square-foot outdoor structure. The funds donated by AFFF were raised within the Asheville community in conjunction with local Taco Bell restaurants.
“It’s hard being stuck in a hospital all day long. So, this really gives them a chance to get outside that environment, relax and try to take a deep breath from all they’re probably battling inside the VA,” said Brian Horne, AFFF’s VP of marketing.
The Armed Forces Family Foundation hopes to raise money for an oncology garden at the VA Medical Center in the coming year.
