Smells of funnel cake, corn dogs, and other fried-somethings engulfed the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus this weekend. Blankets and music filled up the Beach and arts and crafts vendors took over Freshman Quad for the three-day festival known as Spring Fair. This year’s theme was “Funkytown.”
Headliners A$AP Ferg and Steve Aoki performed an off-campus concert at Rams Head Live! on Friday night. Tickets sold out in a half an hour, said Liz Pence, coordinator of student programming and events and first-time Spring Fair-er.
“I think that Spring Fair is just a celebration of our community both here on campus and in Baltimore,” she said. “It’s a chance for students to build community and relax before finals.”
Other live musical acts performed all weekend long on the Beach or in the Beer Garden.
Kids Quad featured face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo, and more. Adults could ride a mechanical bull near the Beer Garden, play bubble soccer on the practice field, or watch a pie-eating contest on Freshman Quad.
The Hub’s pick from the more than 20 food vendors? Tostones, or fried green plantains with Old Bay mayo from the Green Bowl Food Truck.
